PFLITSCH marine cable glands - safety in the most demanding conditions

The marine environment is one of the most demanding operating conditions for electrical and telecommunication installations. Salt, moisture, vibrations, fluctuating temperatures and high EMC requirements mean that every system component must meet the highest standards of quality and safety. In response to these challenges, PFLITSCH has developed a new generation of marine cable glands – blueglobe TRI NM/Cr, compliant with the current VG 88846-4 standard.
VG 88846-4 Standard – a new level of quality in naval projects
On December 1, 2021, the new VG 88846-4 standard concerning cable entries (“Entries for cables and insulated wires”) for watercraft was published. It replaced the previous VG 88773 standard. Since July 2022, the use of cable glands compliant with VG 88846-4 has been mandatory in all new projects for the German Navy.
Importantly, PFLITSCH is currently the only manufacturer offering cable glands certified in accordance with this standard.
The VG 88846-4 standard was developed by WTD 71 – the German military testing and research authority responsible for the qualification of naval systems for the Bundeswehr. The standard is based on the European DIN EN 62444 norm, which defines construction and testing requirements for cable glands. However, in the case of VG 88846-4, these requirements have been extended to include criteria specific to the marine environment and military applications – including vibration testing, salt spray resistance, enhanced sealing performance and stringent electromagnetic compatibility requirements. This results in a higher level of safety and reliability compared to standard industrial applications.
In earlier designs used in accordance with VG 88773, sealing and EMC contact were often achieved using a double-cone system along with additional components such as heat shrink tubing. While effective, these solutions required multi-stage installation and high assembly precision. Modern systems such as blueglobe TRI integrate sealing and shielding functions into a single design, simplifying installation and increasing repeatability.
PFLITSCH blueglobe TRI NM/Cr – a uncompromising solution for marine applications
The blueglobe TRI NM/Cr model is a marine cable gland with a metric marine thread (DIN 89280), listed by the Bundeswehr and NATO. It is designed to ensure maximum safety “on the high seas” – both in military vessels and advanced civil projects (offshore, special-purpose ships, shipbuilding industry).
Key technical features of blueglobe TRI NM/Cr
